“A MUSICAL JOURNEY TO THE AGES”

Music is important in the learning process of children. It associates the correlation between student enjoyment and student interest. Singing — as an example — can be an alternative medium in teaching literacy, and developing oral communication sans the direct instructional modulation.

It is important that young students are immersed in an environment that promotes audible expression as an extra part of the curriculum.

The Children’s Ark Preparatory School believes in promoting music and giving children another means of self-expression, allowing them to artistically impart their feelings and emotions they bear, whether it be happiness, frenzy, or frustration. In a very real sense, this is building up their Emotional Intelligence.

More on our student’s EQ, The Children’s Ark Preparatory School held another musical gathering. Dubbed “A Musical Journey To The Ages” the event was held on February 11, 2017 at the Philippine Social Science Center Auditorium in UP Diliman. The musicale was a presentation of our young students’ talent in the field of music as they performed medleys of songs and dances from the Golden Oldies, or from the ’50s to the ’60s era.

The superb presentation was a result of the Coach Nino’s tireless effort in laying it out for everyone. The event was jazzed up by cool raffle prizes and a dance number from our very own faculty members.

NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION, 2016

This year’s National Nutrition Month was all about getting our kids to enjoy more fruit and vegetables every day. The campaign also focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

How, when, why and where we eat are just as important as what we eat.

The Childrens Ark Preparatory School trains kids to develop a mindful eating pattern which includes nutritious and flavorful foods in order to savor the essence of eating right.

This occasion also highlights the great efforts of our school partners who are of big help in improving the health and wellness of our students.

TCAPS hooks up nutrition, physical activity and learning — because healthy kids learn better!

KIDZANIA, MANILA: THE LAND OF COOL KIDS

Immediately following our trip from the MMDA’s Children’s Road Safety Park, the Children’s Ark Preparatory School, as part of its outbound tour, cruised down for an adventure at Kidzania, Manila, also referred to as The Land of Cool Kids — an interactive environment built especially for kids to delve, travel and learn about the world of grown-ups in a scaled-down community.

A miniature district which provides a dynamic way to orient kids in performing real-life reality-based characters such as firefighters, aviators, cooks and bakers, medical team, entertainers and so much more. They get to have hands-on experience on different trades and they do it practically in lifelike conditions.

The indoor play city was made in cooperation with some of the country’s leading industry partners (Cebu Pacific, BPI, LBC Express, St. Lukes Medical Center and so on) which provide the technical facilities and know-how for every department.

Enter Kidzania, Manila.

What could be the biggest hit for the kids is Kidzania’s FIRE DEPARTMENT:

Kidzania’s Fire Department allows these little ones a fun and learning experience as to fire safety and gets them into action during emergencies. A fire engine can haul up to 8 “firefighters” and brings them into exhilarating activity for about half an hour.

A hospital — sponsored by St. Luke’s Medical Center — consists of a Baby Care Center, an Emergency Room and an Operating Room where children learn the basics of performing an organ transplant and being part of a paramedic team, where they get to respond to emergency calls and employ first aid anywhere within the city.

Another popular role-play at Kidzania is being a member of the LBC team. They lined up and take turns to slipped into the familiar LBC gown.

A note from the courier company: The LBC KidZania branch teaches kids the value of efficiency, the benchmark of a trusted leader in the industry, in the simplest way possible, but also the intangible but no less important concepts of respect for other’s property, valuing hard work, friendliness and customer service.

Kids pick-up and deliver packages across Kidzania. A great way to teach them how to value, handle, and store goods.

CREATING RESPONSIBLE PEDESTRIANS AT THE CHILDREN’S ROAD SAFETY PARK

Our outbound tour included a visit at the Children’s Road Safety Park in Manila. What was once a playground called “Paraiso ng Batang Maynila,” the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority converted the place into a learning ground for children’s road traffic safety. The “miniature city” has a simulated urban traffic environment which aims to educate kids as to basic road safety, awareness on rules and regulations, potential dangers on the streets, and broad understanding and familiarization of traffic signs.

In the Philippines, particularly in Metro Manila, traffic related accidents involving children have become a very serious problem. In most of these road accidents, there are more chances of children being at fault rather than the motorist. It is a primary concern for the Children’s Ark Preparatory School to ensure our students become responsible pedestrians as well as responsible passengers and practice street smartness.

The Children’s Road Safety Park presents models of traffic-related structures, such as bike paths, road traffic sign, steel footbridge, sidewalks with curb and drainage system. The 4,600 sq. m. park also has scaled-down building structures, such as a school, office, waiting shed, gasoline station, hospital, fast food, comfort room and landscaping development.

TCAPS OUTBOUND TOUR: AGUINALDO SHRINE

On September 24, our students have piled into service buses to visit a number educational institutions which includes a historical site, science lab, and a couple of learning and entertainment parks. The aim is to bring the children out of their routines and provide the opportunity for meaningful and exciting educational experiences. A hands-on learning that would increase their motivation for learning.

Our outbound tour resulted in the kids’ greater appreciation, respect, and awareness for the institutions that was visited. The trip have imparted better understandings and introduced interest and care for social and civic subjects.

Our first stop was the Aguinaldo Shrine — the ancestral home of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the the Philippine Republic. The house is where the independence of the Philippines from Spain was declared on June 12, 1898.

The Childrens Ark Preparatory School_0025

Today, the establishment serves as a museum that keeps our country’s glorious past alive. The place is well-visited especially by students. The Aguinaldo Shrine takes back visitors to the turn of the century era when Katipuneros struggled for our freedom and independence from Spain. General Emilio Aguinaldo and a lot of Filipino heroes laid their lives and properties in the name of liberty. The Aguinaldo Shrine is one of the many outfits that will remind our youth to look back and appreciate the sacrifices that our forefathers have done for us.

A Historical Marker was installed at the Shrine on June 12, 1998, in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The Childrens Ark Preparatory School_0027

On February 6, 1964, General Emilio Aguinaldo died at the age of 94 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Quezon City. June 18 on that year, the government — through Republic Act of 4039 signed by President Diosdado Macapagal — declared the house as a National Shrine.

The Childrens Ark Preparatory School_0028

The Aguinaldo House is divided into three sections – the main house on the west side, family wing on the east, and the mid-section where a five-story tower with a spire at the very top is situated.

The ground floor is where the museum of Aguinaldo’s memorabilia and other historical artifacts is set. A hologram depicting some scenes from the June 12, 1898 occasion welcomes visitors.

The house is mostly made of precious Philippine hardwoods — materials which are rarely used today if not prohibited by the government. The furniture, pillars and doorways, are outlined in florid decorations.

The Grand Hall is where Aguinaldo and his men usually held their meetings or private gatherings. The room is witness to so many significant state decisions and resolutions. It opens to the “historic window” where the first Philippine flag was waved at the Declaration of Independence.

PARENTING TALK: RAISING CHILDREN OF CHAMPIONS

Miss Ellen Rojo is a Psychology graduate with a master’s degree in Divinity — an academic degree in religion or pastoral profession. We had the good opportunity of having her brainstorm us more on raising children apace with God. You see, most people in today’s world seldom recognize the principles of God as the force that will lead to a stable and joyous upbringing.

Raising kids is one of the most laborious and toughest task in our lives. Although it is the most valuable and most gratifying activity, we refer to it as “the hardest job in the world.” There are good times, of course, as there are trying times. But none is more rewarding and fulfilling than seeing our children go through life in God’s way.

All we want is to be perfect mothers and fathers. We try to do everything to balance work and home life and when things don’t work, we feel like failures. We try to keep them from troubles, at the same time allow them to experience pain so they’ll be able to handle pain when we are no longer around. Parenthood is both wondrous and tough at the same time.

11992268_1180796598603555_318551259_n

Miss Rojo’s talks hinge on teaching children God’s way of life during their childhood in order to have foundation to which they can best rely later on. She catechize the need for parents to instill into their children that God’s way works for us. Or in her words, Producing champion children is a partnership work with God.

Paramount to parenting is to raise children seeing God through their parents’ eyes. A young mind’s perception of God is first and foremost developed through their parents’ example. Even though we understand that not all children brought up in the Church will be bred in God’s image, it is recognizable that efforts are not really wasted.

Miss Rojo expounded more on the Simple steps to start a relationship with God:

  • God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your child
  • Problem: we are separated from God.
  • God’s solution: Jesus
  • We must individually accept Jesus

11992092_1180796571936891_530968882_n

Raising kids may be a great challenge. But some champion parents know a few secrets to make things easier. Miss Rojo for example, shared this unbeaten tip she called T.R.A.I.N:

T – trust their DIVINE design

R – respect their needs

A – acknowledge they are individually unique

I – instruct and guide them

The Children’s Ark Preparatory School understands the thought that there is no greater legacy parents can bequest their children than to have the fullness of blessings that come from bowing to the will of God.

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them — Psalm 127: 3–5
